Self-hosted web analytics that one person can run

Pulse is an open-source web analytics service. Its data lives in a single SQLite file, and Docker brings it up with one command. It does not try to have every feature. It aims to be small and fast, and to make its numbers readable by people and AI agents alike.

What you can see

  • Pageviews, visitors and events, compared with the previous period or the same period last year

  • Traffic sources: referrer sites, channels (direct, organic search, social, referral, email, paid) and UTM parameters

  • Browser, OS, device, country and language

  • Goal conversion rates and ordered funnels

  • Click any row to filter the whole page, and create a read-only share link

Why it exists

  • API first: every page in the UI is backed by an endpoint. Keys are scoped per site and per permission (collect / read / admin), and one request returns a whole report.

  • Privacy friendly: no IP addresses, no raw user agents, and the tracking script sets no cookies.

  • Small: one container, one SQLite file, one bilingual (English / Chinese) interface.

What it doesn't have yet

Session replay, user journeys, retention analysis and revenue attribution. If you need those, Umami is the better choice. Pulse can't import Umami's history directly either. The repository includes a guide for running both side by side and comparing the numbers.

Quick start

git clone https://github.com/k7airos/pulse.git && cd pulse
docker compose up -d
docker compose exec pulse cat /data/BOOTSTRAP_ADMIN_KEY.txt

Open http://127.0.0.1:4592, paste the admin key, create a website, and add the snippet it gives you to your site.

Every page view and download click on akang.store is counted by Pulse.

Does it store visitor IP addresses? No. Only derived values such as browser, OS, device, country and language are stored.

Can AI agents use it? Yes. Everything is available through the API, with OpenAPI docs and a short guide written for agents.

What license is it under? MIT. Use and modify it freely.
